Android 4.2 for defy/defy+ is here !!!

Motorola defy gets android 4.2 .An amazing fast development at the xda forums has again made the Defy one of the first devices to get an Android 4.2 port  ,this time it is an AOSP build rather then CynogenMod .This build again has been port by an well known developer at the xda's Defy section ie "Quarx".
Here is the list things what works and what doesn't:-

However quarx has replied in an thread stating the following in response to the things that are not working so far

Android 4.2 has not yet been released for development but it seems the "new jellybeans " keyboard and camera app with photos phere  is now available for download

Android 4.2 :The New Jellybean

Looks like Google has been out of ideas ,The speculation whether Google will release an new flavor of android or just an update all of this has come to  rest .Google just released Android 4.2 and called  it "The new Jellybean  " Which means its just an update , initially   it seems that the update is not major and Contains features that you can already find in existing 3rd party apps such as inbuilt HDR filter etc  or ideas which where already in use in the developer community such as multiple logins .However there are some update which are pretty much good  apart from multiple logins(only for tables ) such as 

Photo Sphere / Keyboard Gestures: Photo Sphere will allow you to snap photos in every direction

Wireless Display: Android 4.2 adds wireless display to your device

Notifications:Your notifications have been expanded to a degree, now allowing you to take action on each of them with a simple tap. If you’re late for a meeting, this alert will be able to connect you to your contact with a simple call button. You can email everyone in the meeting too – this being just one example of the many different situations you’ll be able to take action on.

Will Windows 8 Affect the existing market ?

The day windows 8 was announced for the tablet market it felt that it hard some spark in it. However there were and are  skeptics who fell windows 8 will be an disappointment .The Initial verdict on windows 8  RT/PRO would be it  is good and has an potential at-least to match-up  with android if not to beat it in the tablet market and will continue to be a favorite in the computers and laptops with not much competition in those sections  .The UI is completely different from which Google and Apple have to offer ,with some interesting design called Metro , gestures and with the fact that the PRO version would offer an full desktop experience with the freedom to install apps as you do on your desktop  it might really attract some huge response .However the PRO version will only be available for x86 processor that means it will be priced at an higher side and will be  mostly used  in  devices that can be used both as tablets and laptops .The RT version will be used for tablets and will only support ARM processors and will not give you the complete desktop experience however it will come pre installed with Microsoft office RT . Windows 8 Phone on the other hand has not gone through any drastic changes except with some UI changes and additional tweaks ,it will most probably not work out for Microsoft and Android may still dominate in the mobile market.With number devices launched at IFA it only seems to be start of  a battle whose outcome will be seen   in the next 3 months with the launch of  various Android products and Not to leave the the iPad mini ,the iPhone 5 as-well as the launch of the next generation Kindle fire .The next 3 months are Really Going to give us the  best technology related launches ever and will also decide the faith of windows 8........

MIUI (ICS)For Motorola DEFY & DEFY+

After JellyBean port for the Defy coming  close to stable i decided to check some other Rom's that  where Not Jellybean but ICS Rom's and decided to take look at the unofficial Miui Rom(ICS) which when i had tried before when it was just in beta stage .Now after the Rom has gone through some improvements it has undergone drastic changes the UI  has become a lot more faster all thanks to epp and Quarx the developers who build the base ICS Rom on which Miui is Running .The frequent crashes that where seen before have become very less .However the MIUI UI would lead you sometimes frustrated because the Systems Apps Like phone and messages don't open up Quickly as it should ,the main reason for it may be because these are not always in memory .Still improvements have to be done , all thanks to Wajk who build the unofficial MIUI  build for the Defy .I had flashed the 2.8.2 (ics) Rom By Wajk .However there is an  MIUI Rom on MIUI's Chinese forum named MIUI v4 (2.8.10) which is considered to have highest number of changes ,I will Flash that Rom and let you Know soon.......

ParanoidAndroid --An mobile/tablet Hybrid Rom

The Transition from gingerbread to Icream Sandwitch had taken a considerably long period of time but however  Icream Sandwitch to JellyBean is taking place fast with most of the devices that had ICS getting JB   and more new ones added daily .But there are some developers who think giving stock JB is not enough ,they have come up with an modded rom that they call ParanoidAndroid which is an hybrid rom merging  the goodness  of tablets and mobiles together.This rom has been around for a long period of time however with them starting to release JB based roms the experience is a lot more refined and smooth.There are only some Devices that have got the preview version of  ParanoidAndroid -JB while others are still on ICS based roms,but is still worth giving a try ....

Some Android Launcher's That will really light up your Screens

  Google play store has hundreds of launchers it would be really difficult to tell which one's are the best apart from the usual more golauncher, adwlauncher,apex etc .So here is a list of launchers that are good but not popular as the above.................

• TSF Shell Launcher
• FullScreenLauncher
• SamsungGalaxyS3 Launcher

First on the list is my favourite TSF Shell its one of those launchers which has a special feel and customization which you will not find in other launchers ,on the other hand is expensive as compared to other launchers but I think its worth the every penny you pay .If you don't want to spend money the only way is to Google it
Note:-Only use the 1.5 version of the launcher using any other version below this is not as good as the newer one

Things we liked:-
1) The unusual UI which is nothing as we have seen before in a Launcher
2) Highly customizable Icons style and orientations (you can place the icons in any positions)
3)The various gestures to edit large number of settings
4)Some in built app widgets are good

Things we didn't like:-
1)Expensive
2)Sometimes the launcher crashes on low Ram devices

Second on our list  is something that  is called as FullScreenLauncher  nothing much to tell about this launcher its an minimal ui launcher with all apps on one home screen which slides like a continuous ribbon good for people who like to keep it simple

Things we liked:-
1)The screen transition animation
2)Keeps it simple

Things we didn't like:-

1) IT could have been more customizable

2)Its prone to crashes

Third one is for rooted devices I don't think every one would like this launcher but still its a pretty decent one its called Samsung GalaxyS3 launcher  as the name suggest it will give you almost the exact replication of the launcher on the Samsung galaxy s3

Things we liked:-

1)Even some of the widgets are replicated

2)The launcher comes with some pre installed apps like swipe, sony experia Walkman, voodoo etc

3)The launcher is smooth

4)The widgets placement somewhat like jelly bean style

Things we didn't like:-

1)Its only for rooted devices

2)Only for hdpi and above devices

3)Only for Ics

Want to learn how to compile /decompile a Android APK here is how you do it !!

There are basically two ways to do it the first one is an MANUAL method  and the second one is an SEMI AUTOMATED  method



ManualMethod :-

REQUIREMENTS :-
1)WINDOWS
2)THE LATEST JRE AND JDK INSTALLED
3)APKTOOL or APKTOOL for ics
(both can be found in the attached  files of the following link:- APKTOOLS

METHOD:-

1) EXTRACT THE CONTENTS OF THE RAR FILE INTO A FOLDER
2) EVEN PUT THE APK YOU WANT TO MESS WITH AND EVEN THE FRAMEWORK_RES.APK WHICH YOU CAN GET FROM YOUR  ROM ZIP FILE
(suppose I have extractes all the file in the location c://android/apkedit)

3)NOW WE OPEN THE CMD AND TYPE THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS TO ENTER THIS DIRECTORY IT IS SHOWED IN THE FOLLOWING IMAGE

4)NOW TO DECOMPILE APK TYPE THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS IN THE CMD :-

• apktool if framework-res.apk
• apktool d Nova.apk Nova

WHERE Nova.apk is the apk name and Nova is the folder to be created that will contain the decompiled apk

5)NOW IN THE  NOVA FOLDER MAKE THE CHANGES YOU WANT TO MAKE TO THE XML,DRAWABLE ETC..

6)NOW TO RECOMPILE THE APK TYPE THE FOLLOWING COMMAND IN THE CMD:-

• apktool b Nova Nova-new.apk

WHERE Nova is the folder you have edited and Nova-new.apk is the new apk to be created

Now we are NOT done... we cannot use the new apk's... we have to take what we did and add it back to the original apk file to keep proper signature

use something like 7zip, take the 'resources.arcs' file and any other xml files you edited out of the "-new" apk and copy them into Original apk

now the apk is ready to flash with your new changes


NOTE:- ics user use the APK TOOL for ics




SemiAutomatedMethod:-

REQUIREMENTS:-
1) WINDOWS
2) THE LATEST JRE AND JDK INSTALLED
3) AUTO APK TOOL

METHOD:-

1) EXTRACT THE CONTENTS OF THE AUTO APK TOOL RAR FILE INTO AN FOLDER
2) RUN THE  AutoAPKToolMain FILE

3)NOW PLACE THE APK YOU WANT TO PAY WITH IN THE _INPUT_APK FOLDER

4)NOW PUT 6 AND ENTER IN THE ABOVE CMD THAT YOU HAVE OPENED AND THEN DRAG THE APK FROM THE _INPUT_APK INTO THE CMD AND THEN PRESS ENTER

5)ONCE YOU HIT ENTER THE APK WILL START THE DECOMPILING PROCESS AND AN POPUP LOG WILL APPEAR ,ONCE COMPLETED CLOSE THE LOG AND NOW GO TO THE _INPUT_APK FOLDER  YOU WILL SEE AN FOLDER WITH THE SAME NAME AS YOUR APK,NOW YOU CAN MAKE WHATEVER CHANGES YOU WANT TO MAKE INTO THE XML,DRAWABLE FILES

6) NOW ONCE YOU HAVE MADE THE CHANGES WE HAVE TO COMPILE THE APK

ENTER 7 IN THE CMD WE HAVE OPENED AND NOW WE HAVE TO DRAG THE ENTIRE FOLDER WE HAVE EDITED AND NOT THE APK AND PRESS ENTER

7) ONCE THE RECOMPILING THAT FINISHED OPEN THE DECOMPILED FOLDER AND OPEN DIST FOLDER THERE YOU WILL GET YOUR EDITED APK

8)YOU MUST NOW SIGN THE APK WITH OPTION 10 IN THE CMD YOU HAVE OPENED 

 (NOTE: drag the apk from dist folder to the prompt, then press enter, and in the SAME folder, a signedxxx.apk will appear)

9)RENAME THE APK AND PUSH IT (note : you can push the apk with option 62 or sdk typing )

   Code:

adb remount
adb push xxx.apk system/app
adb reboot
